INFORMATION ABOUT ADOPTING FROM UKRAINE

Effective November 1, 2007

Introduction

Ukraine recently re-opened its international adoption program. In December 2006 Adopolis was registered before Ukraine’s State Department for Adoption and Protection of Rights of the Child. Ukraine has many different cultural groups. Most of the children placed for adoption are healthy.

Children Available

Children eligible for international adoption are 24 months and up. Sibling groups, special needs children and more than one unrelated child can be adopted at a time.

Parents Eligibility

Married couples are eligible for adoption. Both parents need to be prepared to travel. Single women are accepted.

Estimated waiting time

We do not yet know the exact time frame due to the recent re-opening of adoptions. We expect that it can be less than five (5) months after the family dossier is submitted to the State Department for Adoption and our coordinator is given a registration number for the adoption case.

Travel

Both parents are requested to travel. The stay in Ukraine is approximately 4 weeks. The first week the adoptive parents stay in Kiev and the remaining time in the region where the child is located. The adoptive parents may choose to return home after their court interview and return to Ukraine approximately two (2) weeks later for the conclusion of the adoption.

In-country Adoption Fee

$ 13,000 including translations of family’s dossier and adoption documents of the child, medical exam, child’s passport, humanitarian aid and the coordinator’s fee in Ukraine for assisting families in all necessary steps of the adoption process.

Hotel Accommodations

Travel and accommodation expenses vary depending on time of year.

Fees are subject to change.
